POLL: Who would you like the next Mayor of Armidale Regional Council to be?

We would like to know who would you like to see as the next Mayor of Armidale Regional Council!

In 2017, when the ARC held a Secret Ballot, our poll showed that 22.4% of survey respondents preferred Ian Tiley as Mayor, 13.4% Diane Gray and 11.8% Simon Murray.

Despite this survey, Simon Murray went on to become Mayor of the ARC and has been Mayor of Armidale Regional Council from 2017 – 2019. The next Mayor will have a 1-year term bringing Armidale Regional Council back into line with NSW councils 2020 elections.

Now’s your chance to vote again as to who you would like to see as the next ARC Mayor!

Correction: Unfortunately due to a misunderstanding, Simon Murray was not included in the survey. We appologise for this mistake. We have reset the poll to include Simon Murray in the available choices.

I believe Peter Bailey holds the key on who becomes Mayor…….yet he only scraped into the council ……I just hope he is aware of the communities wishes…..

I want to kniw what each of these candidates stands for & what they can do for Armidale in their roll, I would like to see someone who see the opportunity of opening The Great Northern Railway or passenger, freight, water & Heritage Trains, boosting tourism in our area. Instead of a rail trail.

I think that’s one of the main issues with council votes for Mayor. The prospective Mayor doesn’t have to run a campaign, so most people don’t know what they are offering. And the promises are usually made to other counsellors, not the people.

The 2017 poll on this site favoured Ian Tiley, who had done an excellent job as Administrator. But, he lost on the vote in Council when he was opposed by a group who complained that about some of his decisions as Administrator because he did not go along with their preferred course of action on some issues. As Administrator Dr Tiley had consulted widely and then formed a view on the course of action to be taken, as was his duty. To vote against him because this group did not get their way on everything was small minded and counter productive to the interests of the citizens. On the next vote, we must hope that sanity prevails and a better mayor is elected.

Thank’s for your comment Russell. You are right in the 2017 poll he was the favorite choice, and it seems now he is still the favorite choice. Personally I was a huge fan of Dr Tiley, and agree that he did an amazing job. Be interesting to see if council agrees with what seems to be the consensus, and votes him in as Mayor. One things for sure; he would do an amazing job.
